HOW PERVASIVE IS THE PROBLEM? (Statistics)

In 1993, when we began to recognize the phenomenon which is now the condition defined as sex addiction. Few people had heard of this as a diagnosis, and most didn’t believe the warnings, as the Internet exploded by the mid-nineties. Now with unlimited access, in our homes, at any time day or night, and the declining standards for movies, televison and advertizing, the statistical realities have reached ever new levels of sexual exploitation and moral decline, and are impossible to stay current on.

Experts in the field of this pathology suggest that 10 to 20 percent of our society is sexually addicted. Other research suggests a much higher figure. Our research over the past 10 years brings us to believe that one in three men are sexually addicted. For some, addiction is much too strong a word, but we see the devastation every day caused by men and women who are “hooked” on behaviors that are destroying both themselves and the ones they love. We feel compelled to “scream” the message of destruction on one hand, while also “gently” reaching out to the men, women and teens who are struggling without hope.

What we know is this:
Sex is being used to sell, to barter, to control and to damage millions of adults, teens, adolescents and children 24/7, 365 days a year. Pornography is one of the areas in which we do have statistics available. If you, or someone you love is struggling with this “killer”, call us. We’d like to be of help!
